In the nation’s capital, Pratham has a growing and necessary presence. Pratham Delhi is spread across five zones of Delhi. They are: Rohini, Civil Lines, Karolbagh, North Shahdara and South Shahdara. The head office of Pratham Delhi is located at Patel Nagar. Pratham utilizes a large-scale, community-based model and addresses three basic issues – access, retention and achievement in elementary education.

Working with communities, governments, parents and children we provide active Pratham programs in two areas – school based programs and community based programs:

School Base Programs

Pratham Delhi has been working for 10 years in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the governing body of schools in Delhi. MCD signed and MoU (memorandum of understanding) for Pratham to provide “creative space” to students in over 500 schools in 2011-2012, across 5 municipal zones. The goal is to create a sustainable functional model of creative library programs and 1) Encourage children to learn to read and 2) Create a culture of creative dialogue between teachers and children using story books as a medium. By the end of the program, Pratham seeks a variety of outcomes, including the ability of grade five students to be able to read a full text and write an independent story.

Community Based Programs

The community based programs of Pratham is comprised of planning and intervention, concentrated heavily in 5 specific areas of Delhi, based on need. The program focuses heavily on Early Childhood Education, a strength of Pratham, reaching out to 10,000 children ages 3-5 through the Balwadi and Anganwadi programs. The objectives are to provide preschool support to children outside of the preschool net, and to address physical, language, cognitive and numeracy development for children at their early stage in life. One of a few specific outcomes is that a child in the program should be able to read a simple paragraph and count their numbers up to 100 upon completion of the program.
