Pratham is planning to set up Pratham Training, Assessment and Placement Centers (PRATAP), transitioning to a post-secondary institution for volunteers and all youth. In addition, Pratham is increasing awareness about the benefits of the Right to Education Act, conducting meetings in every village, and building awareness about the role of School Management Committees.
Here is what the Aser report found in Chhattisgarh.
- 98% of children between 6 and 14 are enrolled in school.
- 44% of 3rd grade students read a 1st grade text fluently
- 39% of 5th grade students do basic division.
Read India
Working in 17 districts across Chhattisgarh, Pratham volunteers are working in over 2000 villages, to teach basic literacy and math in grades 1 & 2, and reading fluency, comprehension and arithmetic in grades 3 to 5.
Education for Education (EFE)
EFE is operating in 18 districts in Chhattisgarh, providing over 3000 volunteers an opportunity to expand their own horizons. EFE is a program designed to strengthen Read India by offering courses to volunteers in exchange for her contributions to the program. In the current phase of EFE, computer courses are available, while spoken English will be offered in the future.
Other Initiatives
Pratham has partnered with Korba West Power to identify, train and support young women and men from local villages to run a Library program, building up key skill sets in them, while reaching children to read in Raigarh district. Pratham also administers and evaluates the Cambridge English Certificate, offered to school teachers to develop their command over English.
