Pratham Books

Pratham makes low cost books accessible to children, parents and communities.

A centerpiece of the Read India movement.

We founded Pratham Books in 2004 as part of the Read India movement, a nation-wide campaign to promote reading among children.

Our mission is to see “A book in every child’s hand.”

As a not-for-profit organization, Pratham Books publishes affordable, high quality books for children in multiple Indian languages.

By ensuring easy access to books, we are:

  • Supporting kids’ classroom instruction by providing books to practice with
  • Keeping children interested in reading by offering fresh reading material
  • Challenging them to develop their reading skills through new books
  • Supporting our literacy programs outside the classroom

We’re democratizing the joy of reading.

Over the last six years, Pratham Books has published more than 200 original titles in 11 Indian languages. We’ve spread the joy of reading to over 12 million children.
