Pratham DC Young Professionals Chapter Launched

The Pratham DC Young Professionals Chapter was launched on April 20, 2010. It has been started by a group of Young Professionals that strongly believe in the message of Pratham and the undeniable need for education to be the basis of every community. The Pratham Young Professionals in D.C. want to engage in local community outreach projects with local area children as well as fundraising activities for Pratham India. As a result, the Young Professionals in the D.C. area had the kickoff event at Firefly restaurant near DuPont circle in D.C. The kickoff meeting served as a medium to gather other like minded young professionals who used the opportunity to explore various ideas regarding events that would raise the awareness of Pratham among Young Professionals in the area. The group has also decided that they should meet monthly to attract more people towards supporting Pratham and it's cause.

Currently the monthly speaker series and happy hours are scheduled to be repetitive events with other periodic events to be included in the near future. In May, the first of the speaker series was kicked off by Dr. Anand Anandalingam, Dean, Robert E. Smith School of Business. The discussions spanned from the impacts of philanthropy on society to ways on creating grassroots awareness. We are thankful for Dr. Anand’s participation towards this event. In June, the first happy hour series was kicked off as the D.C. Young Professionals gathered at the Heritage India restaurant in DuPont Circle, D.C. The agenda for the event included planning for new activities covering the remainder of the year. Similar events and other  more hands on community projects are set to follow in the coming months.
