Pratham Bay Area Half Marathon – October 4, 2009

Like other charitable organizations in the Bay area, the Pratham Bay area chapter has decided to focus on sporting events to raise awareness and funds for the Pratham children in India. Its first venture in this area was sponsorship of runners and walkers in the 2009 San Jose Rock n Roll Half Marathon event held on October 4th, 2009 in downtown San Jose.

Pratham made available to each of the participants a web infrastructure to create an on‐line personalized web page as well as enabling a secure, easy on‐line contribution mechanism. Pratham also offered a training regimen as well as team runs during the weekends.

The event was a success on all counts. 13 runners / walkers participated in the event for TEAM PRATHAM. The expectation was that each runner / walker would raise $500 for the children. It ended up raising $6931 in total. Participants ranged in age from 12 to mid fifties. The weather was perfect! The training was very beneficial for all the participants in getting into better health and body toning.

With the success of the event, Pratham has decided to do the same event on a bigger scale in 2010. Pratham will sponsor runners / walkers for the 2010 San Jose Rock n Roll Half Marathon to be held on Sunday October 3rd 2010.
