DFW Gala 2011

In a heartwarming show of support for child literacy, the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Community came together on September 24 at the NTX Auto Museum to celebrate Pratham's accomplishments.

In this unique venue the DFW Chapter hosted over 400 distinguished guests, welcomed Pratham co-founder Dr. Madhav Chavan as Chief Guest, organized a silent art auction by members of the Chapter Teens and Kids' Club, conducted a live auction and pledge-drive, and entertained attendees over a delicious dinner. By the end of the evening, over $65,000 was raised on the floor, bringing the DFW chapter to 80% of its goal for the year!!

It was an honor to have Dr. Chavan recount stories of Pratham's effect as expressed by the children and volunteers it impacts. Not only did we hear about the major successes in India, but it was gratifying to learn about several South Asian countries adopting Pratham methodologies.

The stars of the evening were the children of our recently launched Teens and Kids" Club, who, in addition to reading voraciously this summer to benefit Pratham programs, emceed the evening with great poise and excitement. Divya Walia, a fifteen year old youngster who has been supporting Pratham since age 5, shared the stories of her involvement, and her experience this past summer when she worked with Pratham in India.

Pratham is grateful to have the trust of the donors in DFW, who continue to lend their support and resources to eradicate child illiteracy in spite of an extremely tough economy. We would also like to thank the following vendor partners for the evening.
